Plymouth in England

Guide to Cawsand, Cornwall - Day trips guide

Cawsand is in the south east corner of Cornwall, about two miles from Millbrook, and is a delightful cove with lovely pubs including the Devonport Inn which serves Cornish food and offers views over a sandy beach and across to Plymouth.

One of Cornwall’s most attractive and romantic spots, Cawsand often wins awards for being one of the West Country’s best kept coastal villages and yet it manages to retain the charm of its fishing village origins. For people who love to set sail, there are boats that can be hired and boat trips for the less adventurous. Anglers can fish for bass and mackerel from the rocks while others may wish to browse Cawsand’s wonderful little shops or relax over a cake in the café or scones and clotted cream in the tea rooms.

Cawsand is a perfect location for exploring eastern Cornwall and visiting neighbouring villages such as Looe, Cottages in Devon and CornwallSeaton and Whitsand Bay. About forty-five minutes in the car is the world famous Eden Project with its amazing biospheres that feature in the James Bond movie, ‘Die Another Day’.

Next door to Cawsand is Kingsand and at one time the two fishing hamlets were in different counties although, today, they are both firmly in Cornwall welcoming many day-trippers who cross from Plymouth via the ferry. It is not surprising that the twin appeal of Cawsand and Kingsand attracts so many visitors during peak times. The villages are both exceptionally pretty with brightly painted fishermen’s cottages lining their narrow streets.

Cawsand offers a wonderful bucket and spade holiday complemented but the charm and history of a delightful smugglers’ cove.
