Barbican Jazz Festival, Plymouth
Barbican Jazz Festival
The Barbican Jazz Festival held in Plymouth is an international music festival held annually featuring both jazz and the blues genre of music. The festival is usually held over a period of a week to ten days and features musicians from both these styles catering to a wide variety of tastes. Most events at the Barbican Jazz Festival are free and only
some of them require attendees to pay. The rich, historic area of Plymouth acts as the perfect backdrop to this musical event that plays host to a variety of live music performances.
The jazz Festival is usually held in the first week of May and the event tends to showcase prominent bands as well as a host of independent musicians. Some of the highlights of the 10-day event in the past has for example included the likes of Empirical (a UK based jazz group), Ian Shaw and Dennis Rollins with his band. Others have included Tim Page, Roger Marks (a well-known Plymouth-based performer who plays the trombone and interactive segments).
This is one of the best events in the South West England each year for jazz and blues music and with the backdrop of the Barbican, this is a great festival to attend.
