Plymouth Polytechnic to University
Plymouth University (or the University of Plymouth, which is its official name) is the fifth largest university in the UK in terms of the number of students. The University is also one of the largest universities in South West England and is one which in recent years has undergone many renovations and restorations in recent years. It is now reputed to be one of the best educational centres in the United Kingdom and it offers students the opportunity to study a wide range of subjects in world class educational facilities.
When it was first built, the University of Plymouth was a Polytechnic College which included such prestigious institutions as the Polytechnic, the Seale-Hayne College and
the Rolle College. In 1989, the Polytechnic was renamed the Polytechnic South West. Later, when the polytechnic college acquired the status of being a university, its name was changed to the University of Plymouth. Today, the University of Plymouth includes Tavistock College and the Plymouth School of Maritime Studies.
Faculty of Art, Science and Health
The University of Plymouth has a number of faculties that offer a range of courses. These include the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Art, Faculty of Health and Faculty of Technology. The University has over 10 colleges registered with it such as the prestigious Truro College and Cornwall College. The university also boasts a dynamic student body that participates in various educational activities and a student union that is reputed to be one of the best in England.
